How to create a Heart Shape using Adobe Illustrator CC
- If you cannot see the Pathfinder Window, navigate to Window :: Pathfinder and make sure it is checked.
- Use the keyboard shortcut (V) to select the ‘Selection Tool’ to select an object
- Use the keyboard shortcut (A) to select the ‘Direct Selection Tool’ to select points of an object and adjust them
- Use the keyboard shortcut (O) to select the ‘Reflection Tool’ to reflect an object over its axis
Step 1: Select the Pen Tool (left hand menu)
Step 2: Click once in the center of the canvas. Then hold shift as you drag your mouse downward. Click again to create a straight line.
Step 3: Move your mouse to the left and click to create a 3rd point. Do not release your mouse, simply hold and drag your mouse to create a curved line.
Step 4: Finish the connection by clicking on the first dot you made.
Step 5: Press (V) on your keyboard to select the ‘Selection Tool’ and click on the object.
Step 6: Navigate to the ‘Reflection tool’ from the left hand side menu.
Step 7: Click on the top right point of the object while holding down ALT.
Step 8: Click OK on the dialog box to make a vertical reflection of the object you made.
Step 9: Press (V) on your keyboard to select the ‘Selection tool’ and drag your mouse over the two objects that are now on the canvas.
Step 10: Navigate to the ‘Pathfinder’ window and click on ‘Unite’ to unite the objects together.
Step 11: Change the fill color of the new object by navigating to the color panel and choosing a color
Step 12: Adjust the object to taste by selection the ‘Direct Selection Tool’ and clicking on the points. Adjust the angles by adjusting the dots at the end of the angled lines.
